The Midwest Regional Children’s Advocacy Center (MRCAC) prepared and funded the development of this 2016 paper, which is an update of a paper published in 2007, which introduced guidelines for the medical care of sexually abused children that has been widely used by physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners in this field to inform their practice. The 2016 paper is a result of years’ long collaboration among child abuse pediatric specialists who reviewed new published research and received input from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics to determine how these guidelines should be updated.
